The 71 yr old man who fired five shots at Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, is linked with pro-Russian extremist grp that Juraj Cintula, who shot Slovak PM Robert Fico, on Wednesday, May 15 was associated to right-wing, pro-Russian extremist grp. Hungarian investigative journalist reported. Hungarian investigative journalist, Szabolcs Panyi, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) According to 2019 report by VSquare investigative web site (the organization), which was set up around 2012, a right-wing neo-Nazi group, had become increasingly linked to Russian bodies had collaborated with nationalist Russian motorcycle gang funded by Kremlin – the Night Wolves.

Why
Constantly compared in the media with the Nazi youth organization Hitlerjugend, Švrček said that under his leadership Slovenskí Branci was distancing itself from “the sick ideals of Nazism and fascism.”

In 2016, Cintula, a self-described poet, writer and publicist wrote a diatribe on the “selfless enthusiasm” of Slovenskí Branci and encouraged young men to enlist in the face of “the thousands of immigrants coming to Europe.” He said the group was not preparing for war but were “preparing to protect the inhabitants, the country, tradition, culture – they are patriots.”

Russia’s 27-month war on Ukraine. This bigger loss may occurred in May 2023, when a Ukrainian air force Patriot surface-to-air missile battery shot down at least four, possibly five, Russian fighters and helicopters over southern Russia.

Belbek, is 150 miles south of front line, of south Ukraine, where US M39A1 scatters thousand grenade-sized bomblets. A M39A1 sacrifices warhead for larger rocket motor, can scatters 300 bomblets. One popular Russian military blogger said, Ukrainians fired 10, two-ton ATACMS at Belbek (Tues). Belbek lies beyond old range of M39 but newer range of the M39A1 range 190 miles, means many as 3,000 raining bombs.

This 2nd batch of more than 100 rockets, which shipped in April, included at least a few M39A1s.

U.S. ammunition Has Reached Ukrainian Brigades—And Now Those Brigades Are Blasting Russian Assault Groups. Russian attack on Chasiv Yar has ground to a halt

May 18, 2024,
The 41st Mechanized Brigade artillery early April, Ukrainian forces were in crisis. As U.S. hadn’t approved $61 bil funding for Ukrainian war effort. Likewise, an urgent mobilization law—meant to raise tens of thousands of new troops for the Ukrainian armed forces—had stalled in Kyiv.
Understaffed starved of ammunition they used Ukrainian brigades were at their weakest. And the Kremlin knew where to attack several points along the 600-mile front line Russia’s 27-mths war.

But. A month later, U.S.A. aid to Ukraine is flowing again. But mobilization law is in effect, fresh. So Ukrainian troops are undergoing training and new brigades are forming. Ukraine’s fortunes are improving. Nowhere more less evident Chasiv Yar, town in Donetsk eastern. Ukraine main objective to stop Russian offensive there.

In early days. Russian attack, armored units were steadily advancing north & south of Chasiv Yar while infantry probed town’s most vulnerable district—canal district, lies exposed far side of canal that threads north to south along eastern edge of Chasiv Yar. The Ukrainian defenses in Chasiv Yar were thin getting thinner. mid-April. Ministry in Kyiv dissolved Ukrainian army brigade defending canal district, 67th Mechanized Brigade, after an official investigation confirn allegations of deep incompetence in brigade’s command staff.

Elements of Ukrainian army’s 56th & 41st Mechanized Brigades & 5th Assault Brigade scrambled to fill those gap in defensive line left by dissolution of 67th Mechanized Brigade. Kyiv rushed more drones to Chasiv Yar, meantime, Russian Su-25 attack jets roamed directly over front line, firing rockets@Ukrainian troops who had run out of air-defense missiles, with paratroopers advanced north & south of Chasiv Yar, threatening to surround town’s garrison.

The race was on—between Russian forces trying to capture Chasiv Yar & Ukrainian and allied logisticians rushing U.S. supplied ammunition to the embattled town. The good news forward to friends of a free Ukraine, is that the Ukrainians seem to have won the race. The garrison in Chasiv Yar is now flush with ammo, apparently—and wreaking havoc on Russian assault groups.

On Friday, a battalion of about 20 Russian armored vehicles emerged from Donetsk, they rolled toward Chasiv Yar. As recently as a few weeks ago, Russian assault grp might’ve traveled much of the 3-mile distance from Donetsk to Chasiv Yar relatively unmolested by Ukrainian attacks. With precious few anti-tank missiles & artillery shells, Ukrainians relied on first-person-view drones to bombard those Russian. But those two-pound drones range just 2-miles or so, pack just a pound of explosives—too little to pierce the layers of do-it-yourself armor the Russians have been adding to their vehicles. By mid-May, the Ukrainians were much better-armed. So when Russian assault grp tried to cross miles of open fields, it got hit all the whole way—with 100-pound shells, 50-pound missiles and two-pound drones. Few Russians reached the canal district didn’t last long.

Continue from...U.S. Ammo Has Reached Just on Time for Ukrainian Brigades. Now Brigades Are Blasting Russian Assault Groups attacking on Chasiv Yar has ground to a halt

“Despite rapid successes in initial weeks of the assault against Chasiv Yar, including reaching the canal and, in some instances, crossing it with small groups, the Russians have ultimately failed to establish a foothold on other side & advance further,” Ukrainian analysis group Intelligence Insight reported on Friday.

The garrison in Chasiv Yar isn’t only one benefiting from influx of ammunition. “For the first time during war, none of brigades complained that there were no artillery shells,” Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky claimed on Thursday. He might be overstating abundance of ammo. But it’s evident, when Russians attacked Chasiv Yar on Friday, Ukrainians had plenty of firepower to hurl at them.

With help from Satellite images Twitter has revealed 12 Tu-95MS & 13 Tu-22M3 strategic bombers, along with one Tu-160, and two An-12 military transport aircraft were located at the Olenya airfield on May 15.

Defense media outlet cites estimates from the British Ministry of Defense and Ukraine’s military intelligence directorate (HUR) approximately 40 Tu-95MS and 40 Tu-22M3 bombers currently remain in service with Russia’s strategic aviation.

“And follows that, at moment, Russians have collected a third of the total number of combat-capable bombers of this type at Olenya airfield,” the report said. By end April, there were only six Tu-22M3s at the Mozdok airfield, which is much closer to Ukraine and suitable for the deployment of strategic bombers.

Satellite images revealed Russians silhouettes of Tu-22M3 & Su-24M/MR aircraft had been painted on the ground at airbase, most likely in an attempt to foil Ukrainian kamikaze drones.

Meanwhile in Kyiv...Ukraine makes gains in its other war - fighting corruption.

Ukraine has battled endemic corruption since the first days of its independence in 1991, and govt officials and independent campaigners alike say that fight is key to winning the existential war it is fighting with Russia.

They have had some success. Anti-corruption organisation Transparency International ranks Ukraine at its highest level since 2006: currently 104th out of 180 countries in its Corruption Perceptions Index.

"Most Ukrainian anti-corruption institutions are showing pretty good results," Andriy Borovyk, the executive director of Transparency International Ukraine, tells the BBC.

According to him, one such result is the arrest of the then-Supreme Court head, Vsevolod Knyazev, on bribery charges in May 2023.
Reply

Ukraine’s task now is to focus on rooting out corruption in its tax and customs services, as well as improve financial oversight, says Mr Borovyk.
There is a safeguard b'cos if you see somebody arrested, one will think twice again b4 something happen" he said. There have been other high-profile arrests too, including agriculture minister and an officer with SBU intelligence service.

All three deny any wrongdoing and have been released on bail. Investigations are ongoing. A key milestone came in 2015, when a digital platform called Prozorro helped slash corruption in govt procurement, saving Ukraine almost $6 billion (£4.7bn) in public funds in just four years.

"A lot of money is coming to Ukraine from the West, & of course they are asking whether there is proper control over this money,” he adds. In addition to sapping Ukraine's meagre resources, corruption has in recent years hampered the flow of foreign aid.

Donald Trump cited corruption concerns when challenged about delaying assistance to Ukraine when he was US president.

Corruption has also been a major obstacle to recruiting more men for the war with Russia. Last year President Zelensky sacked all regional officials in charge of military conscription amid bribery concerns. Thousands of Ukrainians also bribed their way out of the country to avoid being sent to the war.
Reply

The World Bank calculated rebuilding Ukraine would cost $411bn (£325; €375). And there has been much more destruction since then.
International donors have voiced concerns about whether funds will be properly accounted for.

The European Union has made the fight against corruption central to Ukraine's bid to join the EU,
Ukraine was ranked 116th out of 180 countries in a 2022 corruption perceptions index by campaigning and research organisation Transparency International.

But rebuilding of Bucha apartments, one of the first housing projects of Ukraine's new State Restoration Agency, is intended to show the country can, in agency's words, "build back better".

The stakes are high, because if the international community sees something amiss then he fears funding will dry up.
