Spring has arrived in Ukraine – temperatures is reasonably to high of 17C

Should this be a turf battle?
Its unclear whether Kremlin or Russia's security services, particularly. The State Security Service, or FSB, are the driving force behind the arrests.

It's possible officials sufficiently distant from Putin could have caught in middle of a my turf war unconnected to appointment of new defense minister.

The security services, could be trying to “push back” against the military's dominance seen since Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. While the Kremlin denies that any kind of a purge was taking place, “if Putin didn’t want it to happen, it wouldn’t be happening,” Putin seem not saying an thing, but with other action, if's he saying yes to action.

Ukrainian Air Force Wanted Four Squadrons Of F-16s. It’s Finally Getting Them. Ex-Belgian jets boost Ukraine’s future F-16 fleet to 85 planes.
It’s taken more than a year of intensive diplomacy for Ukrainian, Norwegian, Dutch, Danish& Belgian officials, to finally getting his four squadrons.

Gen. Serhii Golubtsov, Commander of Ukrainian air force, has said all along needed four operational squadrons of Lockheed Martin F-16 fighters to have any chance of controlling air over a single sector of 700-mile front line of Russia’s wider war on Ukraine. On Tuesday, Ukrainian president announced Belgium would donate 30 surplus F-16s—boosting to 85 the total number of the nimble, supersonic fighters Ukraine should receive starting this summer.

That’s enough jets to sustain Ukrainians’ F-16 training unit in Romania—currently flying 18 ex-Dutch F-16s—also equipping equivalent of four squadrons each with 16 jets. The three additional planes would presumably be in reserve to replace the inevitable combat losses.

The 64 front-line jets—the equivalent of a U.S. Air Force fighter wing—could achieve local air superiority, albeit temporarily. “To has a plan an operation from A to Z, I think it is worth talking about at least a squadron, at least 12 to 16 planes,” Golubtsov explained. “If it'll be at least 3 to 4 squadrons, I think that in a separate direction we will be able to gain superiority in the air.”

The 1980s-vintage F-16s from Norwegian, Dutch, Danish & Belgian air forces upgraded to common standard in the late 1990s & early 2000s has modern radars, are compatible with a wide array of precision munitions & electronic jammers.

Armed with AIM-120 air-to-air missiles, fighters could “force the enemy to completely abandon the strikes they are currently making in a certain area,” Golubtsov said.

The general was referring to Russia’s escalating glide-bombing campaign. Since mid-2023, Russian air force Sukhoi Su-30, Su-34 and Su-35 fighters—each hauling as many as four KAB glide bombs—have been pummeling Ukrainian positions and cities from as far as 40 miles away with as many as 3,000 bombs a month.

A single KAB weigh more than a ton strike within tens of yards of its aim point. “Bombs completely destroy any position,” wrote Egor Sugar, a trooper with Ukrainian army’s 3rd Assault Brigade. “All buildings & structures simply turn into a pit.”

KAB glide-bombs are a “miracle weapon” for the Russians, Ukrainian noted back in March & right now, Ukrainians have “practically no counter measures.” The Ukrainian air force’s 75 or so existing ex-Soviet fighters lack modern radars &  air-to-air missiles; air force’s surface-to-air missile batteries are too few in number to protect every city and troop concentration.

French President Emmanuel Macron speaks to reporters @Schloss Meseberg castle, north of Berlin, Gransee, Germany, May 28, 2024 - CNN

Ukraine can use French weapons, including long-range missiles, against targets inside Russia from which Moscow attacks Ukraine. He think that we can allow them to neutralize the military sites from which the missiles are fired and, basically, the military sites from which Ukraine is attacked,” Macron said during a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Brandenburg, Germany.

Ukrainian soil is being attacked from bases in Russia. Now, we can't explain to Ukrainians that we’re going what to protect these towns … if we tell them you are not allowed to hit the point from which these missiles are fired?”.

France has supplied Ukraine with an unknown number of SCALP cruise missiles, the French Defense Ministry’s website. SCALP missiles have a range of up to 155 kilometers (96 miles) carry a 400 k/m (881-pound) high-explosive warhead, according to Missile Threat project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

SCALP is equivalent of Britain’s Storm Shadow, also been given to Ukraine by British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, earlier this month could be used at Kyiv’s discretion.

“In whateven the Ukrainians do, in our view its their decision how to use these weapons, they are defending their country, they said, Ukraine were illegally invaded by Putin.

How Ukrainian Drone Weighing Just A Few Pounds Blow Up A 46-Ton Russian Tank?.

The Warhead Is the Answer, seems some Ukrainian drones can conduct top-down attacks. Russian T-80 tank explodes follow FPV strike.
So 100,000 drones represent a lot of firepower, it’s not very heavy firepower. FPV drones are extremely dangerous exposed to infantry, but armored vehicles can usually shrug off multiple strikes by FPVs—and keep fighting.

That appears to be changing, it's now Ukrainian drone crews found some way to massively boost explosive potential FPV. As Russian T-80 tank rolled along Ukrainian lines in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk recently.

Surveillance drone from Ukrainian army’s 47th Mechanized Brigade observed from high overhead, an FPV drone zipped past a 46-ton, The T-80 sported & turned around but too slow, as an anti-drone screen show then. This quadcopter FPV barreled toward T-80. Normally FPV strike on a tank would result in minor damage. This time, T-80 exploded in massive fireball & separated the turret from the hull & incinerated the crew.

FPV crew get lucky?, or new technology at work? a former quality auditor w/U.S. Defense Contract Management Agency, suspected the latter. “I'm beginning to wonder if Ukrainian FPV builders have stolen (an idea) from Swedish RBS-56.”
RBS-56 is an anti-tank missile, designed by Swedish Bofors, packs a 25-pound warhead can triggered by sensors on missile’s underside, explodes downward instead of forward. Top-down attack method targets thin armor on a tank’s topside.

The new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi has built a fearsome reputation as a military commander in l war with Russia, but he faces major challenges, including mobilise new forces & combat corruption in the ranks.

Over past week, President Zelenskyy has fired most of his top generals in an attempt to “reset” manage the country’s decimated, undermanned and undersupplied armed forces.

The list of 15 dismissed generals includes the popular commander-in-chief, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, who has been replaced by Syrskyi – described by some as a “butcher” with little regard for loss of human life. Some heads of combined forces, military reserve, ground & airborne forces, along with some of their deputies and advisers, have survived the cull.

The first thought is absolutely unprecedented action,” said Nikolay Mitrokhin of Germany’s Bremen Uni, who has writing detailed analyses of Russia-Ukraine war since conflict began in 2022. “Apparently, it was coordinated with the new commander-in-chief, Syrskyi, who named the people he would want to work with as a team,” Mitrokhin told Ukraine

Those wave of dismissals follows failure of last year’s counteroffensive on Russian-occupied southern & eastern Ukraine, plus corruption scandals, dire delays to Western military aid & chaotic management of the armed forces.

President Volodymyr Zelensky met with his Singaporean counterpart, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore on June 2.

Zelensky thanked Singapore’s clear stance on the war in Ukraine and discussed prospects of bilateral relations with Shanmugaratnam, the President’s Office said in a statement.

It added that Zelensky stressed Kyiv’s interest in stepping up its relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) “to a new level.”

The Zelensky-Shanmugaratnam meeting came ahead of the global peace summit, which will be held on June 15-16 in the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland, where Ukraine is preparing to present proposals on how to achieve just and lasting peace with Russia. Mr Zelensky made a surprise appearance at the Shangri-la Dialogue in Singapore attended by defence chiefs from around the world, including US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Chinese defence minister Dong Jun....

This visit was aimed at drumming up support from Asian countries. Besides meeting regional leaders, he also urged delegates to attend his summit due to be held later in June.

Mr Zelensky said it would focus on achieving nuclear security, food security, and the release of prisoners of war and Ukrainian children held in Russia.

So far 106 countries said they would send high-level representatives or their leaders to the summit, he said.

Russia 100% is not interest or maybe not invited and China is also like Putin, it may or mayby interest. A 50 - 50 lehh. Likely not attending. As both is bro bro in war and in peace, peace talk in some time in 2027... Rolleyes

A formal invitation was not issued to Russia as Moscow had told Switzerland early on that it did not want to participate, the BBC understands.

Mr Zelensky claimed that Russia was attempting to disrupt the summit by pressuring countries not to attend, through threats of a blockade of agricultural goods, chemical goods, and energy.

Certain countries were assisting this “diplomatic disruption”, he added.

He named China later on, and said it was “working for countries to not come to the peace summit”, unlike the US which has promised to send a high-level representative and is encouraging others to attend.

Russia was doing "everything to disrupt the peace summit" by using "Chinese influence on the region" and diplomats to do so, he said.

"It is unfortunate that such a big, independent, powerful country as China is an instrument in the hands of Putin."

China's foreign ministry had said that the conference "should have the recognition of Russia & Ukraine" and equal participation. "Otherwise, it is difficult for the conference to play a substantive role in restoring peace," spokeswoman said Friday.

Mr Zelensky also said China's leader Xi Jinping had earlier promised him they would “stand aside in this war and would not support Russia with weapons”.

But, he added, there are now “elements that are part of Russia’s weaponry” that come from China, according to various intelligence agencies. He called for China to maintain a “consistent” position.

The US has said that China is helping Russia make more munitions, armoured vehicles and missiles. It estimates about 70% of the machine tools and 90% of the microelectronics Russia imports come from China.

Earlier on Sunday, Chinese defence minister Dong Jun said they do not supply weapons to either party in this war on Ukraine. This is a conflict.

He also said they have put "strict controls" on the exports of dual-use technology, which are items that can be used for civilian and military purposes.

"We have never done anything to fan the flames. We stand firmly on the side of peace and dialogue," he said in his speech.
How is China supporting Russia after it was sanctioned for bullying Ukraine?

Mr Zelensky said he did not meet Mr Dong at the dialogue, but he did meet Mr Austin. The two discussed US’ President Joe decision to let Ukraine use American, U.S. weapons on Russian territory, according to Mr Zelensky. He thank U.S. president for the US61 billion help to Ukraine. Big Grin

But, but...That decision comes with certain restrictions.

Asked by the BBC if he requested the removal of limitations, he said he was grateful to the US for allowing Ukraine to use the HIMARS artillery rocket system by the border of the Kharkiv region which has seen intense fighting.

“Is that sufficient? No,” he said, adding that there were airfields from which Russia was permanently firing “knowing that Ukraine will not fire back”.

US joins other Western states such as France in allowing Ukraine more leeway in using Western-supplied weapons. Russia has warned of “serious consequences” of this move.

This weekend marked 2nd time Mr Zelensky visited Asia since war began.

He made a surprise appearance at the G7 leaders’ summit a year ago in Hiroshima, Japan. How is China helping out sanctioned Russia?

Should Kill F***?,’Russian Shows Mock Execution of Ukrainian POW. Another video circulating on social media shows Russian soldiers forcing Ukrainian POWs to sing Soviet war song, beating & discharging firearm near his head, others video going viral on social media showing Russian servicemen allegedly their own abuse of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs), a violation of international laws of conflict in their 3rd year of the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In the released footage, Russian soldiers lead 4 blind folded POWs. A uniform resembling a Ukrainian pixel was worn by captured men. One of the Russian soldiers told captives to sing anthem of Soviet Union (USSR), after all Russians started singing “The Sacred War” known as “Arise, Great Country!” – one of the most famous Soviet songs of World War II. Russian servicemen shouted at one of the captives, “Pig, why aren’t you singing?” After the prisoners sang a verse, Russian soldiers began hitting 2 Ukrainian soldiers in front with such force that they fell to the ground.

Russians ordered them, “Get up! Get up, *uck. Get up, *itch, we told you,” as Russian soldier continued to kick captive lying on the floor, then added, “So what, kill him, *uck?” Then he pulled the shutter of his machine gun, demanding the captive stand on the count of three. Then the Russian soldier fired as close as possible to the Ukrainian soldier’s head.

Such actions are violation of Geneva Conventions, state that POWs have right to humane treatment. Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reported on Telegram that the incident had previously taken place in the Kharkiv sector.

Ombudsman sent official letters to International Committee of Red Cross & UN to document the abuse of Ukrainian POWs. Kharkiv Prosecutor’s Office has already initiated proceedings on the violation of laws & customs of war (part 1 of Article 438 of Criminal Code of Ukraine), as reported by Office of the Prosecutor General.

“Measures are currently being taken to identify the victims & servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation,” the report read.

There are just a few ways to move large quantities of cargo into Russian-occupied Crimea from Russia proper: by sea, by road & over the Crimean Bridge spanning the Kerch Strait, by ferry across same strait and by rail through southern Ukraine.

One by one, they struck each of these supply lines, most recent get hit was ferry crossing. On Wednesday night to early Thursday morning, the Ukrainian army’s American-made Army Tactical Missile System precision-guided rockets struck ferry landing in Crimea, damaging & destroying two ferries: one for hauling cars and trucks, another for transporting trains also.

Satellite imagery confirmed damage, ferry crossing “was actively used by enemy to support their grouping of troops in emporarily occupied Crimea,” Ukrainian general staff reported.

Biden allows Ukraine to hit some targets in Russia with US weapons. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Nato countries, especially US and several European countries, had "entered a new round of escalating tension and they are doing this deliberately", Russia in remarks quoted by the Tass news agency.

"They are in every possible way provoking Ukraine to continue this senseless war."

As Russia’s Armored Vehicles Get Worse, Ukraine’s U.S.-Made M-2s Destroy Them Faster. Thirteen-ton Russian MT-LBs are no match for 34-ton Ukrainian M-2s. In 28 mths of hard fighting, Russia’s has lost around 4,000 armored personnel carriers & infantry fighting vehicles—the two types of armored vehicle that haul troops into battle, around 150 destroyed Russian APCs & more-heavily-armed IFVs a mth, on average, analysts at Oryx visually confirmed.

Ukrainian losses are much around a thousand APCs, since Russia widened its war on Ukraine in Feb 2022. mth later, Russian losses spiked a staggering 288 APCs & IFVs, according to analyst Andrew Perpetua said, tallies vehicle losses in Ukraine. “This's only what we see & count,” Perpetua said.

It’s apparent what’s happening. Around ruins of eastern city of Avdiivka, one of the most violent sectors of the 700-mile front line in Ukraine, the Ukrainians are deploying better vehicles, while the Russians are deploying worse ones. When Ukrainian & Russian vehicles clash, Russians get beaten—badly.

A pair of videos circulated on social media over past mth graphically illustrate vehicular imbalance. In both cases, Ukraine’s U.S.-made M-2 Bradley IFVs took on Russian APCs demolished them. Potentially dozens of Russians died in the two skirmishes.

In 1st fight, on or just b4 May 2, One Russia’s aging MT-LB armored tractors pulled out of long-term storage & fitted with cage armor to deflect explosive drones, speeds toward Ukrainian lines west of Avdiivka with about half a dozen infantry riding on top. As M-2—one of more than 300 of the 1990s-vintage vehicles the US has donated to Ukraine—rolls out to meet it.

It’s an unfair contest. 13-ton MT-LB was designed to be a support vehicle, its thin armor lack heavy armament for its 2-crew, never meant to carry troops directly into battle, after losing thousands of heavier BMP IFVs, Russians had no choice but press tracked tractors into front-line as APCs.
