It’s more clear by hour, What’s happening in Kursk isn’t a raid: it really is an invasion.
The Ukrainians are pouring significant resources into invasion to guarantee its success, of course. There might be more then 10,000 Ukrainian troops in and around in invasion zone.
The Russian Northern Grouping of Forces the border zone, has around 48,000 troops. The Northern Grouping Forces is bogged down in Vovchansk, a Ukrainian border town 90 miles southeast of Sudzha, the Russian border town taking over by Ukrainian invasion.
It’s apparent Ukrainian brigades deliberately crossed border where the Northern Grouping of Forces was thinnest. “The Ukrainian defense forces’ command has successfully achieved operational surprise” for now with some support from their Russia supported the invision along with the local folks there.

Ukraine appears to expand Russia incursion, in morale boost for Kyiv/Ukrainian forces have continued to push deeper into Russia, further signaling this operation wasn’t a short raid but rather a potential occupation. Ukrainian soldiers ride a BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle in Russian federation region of Ukraine on day 5. Updated August 10, 2024
KYIV — Ukraine’s invasion of Russia is not a surprise, a three months plan stretched into fifth day Saturday in what analysts and Western officials said increasingly looked like a prolonged op to divert Russian forces, raising questions about Kyiv’s ultimate aim as its forces pushed deeper into Russia’s Kursk region.
To turned the tables on Moscow/Putin, Ukraine more than two and half year years ago, is been a morale boost for Ukrainian forces after Russia previously gained the strategic initiative on the battlefield. It could also be used as leverage in potential negotiations with Moscow to end the fighting, analysts said.

The U.S. permitted Ukraine in June to strike Russian military targets just across the border but maintained a ban on attacks deep inside Russia with long-range arms like ATACMS. In the wake of the Ukrainian incursion in Kursk Oblast, which lies just across the border from Ukraine's Sumy Oblast, the Pentagon said the operation is "within the U.S. policy of where they can operate our weapons, our systems, our capabilities."
In turn, the U.K. has reportedly not allowed Ukraine to use British-supplied Storm Shadow as part of the incursion, maintaining their policy of only permitting strikes within Ukrainian sovereign territory. "If Ukraine could strike the enemy troops on their territory, from where they threaten Ukraine, then Ukraine would be in a much better position to protect itself," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said.
"In particular, it would be less necessary to use the Ukrainian defense forces outside of the Ukrainian borders, including Kursk Oblast." The spokesperson added that Ukrainian officials are in talks with Western partners to allow Ukraine to strike military targets deep inside Russia. "This step is necessary… it is 'de-esalatory,' it will contribute to security," said Tykhyi.
All fears must be left behind, and we must be allowed to fully utilize our long-range capabilities to reduce Russia’s military potential," the official added.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg addressed U.S. restrictions on the use of long-range weapons to strike targets deep inside Russian territory during a press conference on July 10 by affirming Ukraine's "right to self-defense.""Under international law, Ukraine has the right to self-defense," Stoltenberg said.
"We are helping Ukraine to realize its right to self-defense by supplying weapons and equipment, including long-range missiles, in particular, ATACMS. The right of self-defense includes the right to strike legitimate military targets on the territory of the aggressor, Russia."

In his nightly address to Ukrainians, Zelenskyy said Ukraine had shown it can seize the initiative as it did in 2022, the first year of the invasion when it recovered swathes of land. Now we done exact same thing - proven again we are capable of achieving our goals in any situation - capable of defending our interests independence".
Pasi Paroinen, an analyst with Black Bird Group, said Russia had mostly relied on nearby military units to try push back Ukrainian force. Russians have enough reserves but most are green, so that, should forced to weaken their 'Centre' group of forces which is currently pressuring Ukrainian lines. Yesterday-Tues, Lithuanian Defence boss, Laurynas Kasciunas said Russia was moving troops from Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad to reinforce Kursk b'cos it does not allow Russia to transfer additional units due to complicates in its military logistics. For now, there is no sign of a letup for Ukraine.
Kyiv's account jarred with alot of picture where a Russia Major General show Ukraine's troops had been attacks villages about 35km from border. Zelenskyy said Kyiv's forces still rounded up Russian prisoners of war, could be swapped for captured Ukrainian fighters, touting what he described as an expanding "exchange fund".
US President Joe Biden, in his first comments, said Washington is in constant contact with Kyiv about the 2nd op frontline. It's creating a real dilemma for Putin," Biden said.

Ukrainian forces’ incursion into Russia’s Kursk region enters its second week, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that Ukrainian troops had “advanced well,” despite Moscow’s reinforcements. Ukraine (AFU) had gained about a mile on Wednesday.
Institute for the Study of War (ISW) estimated that Ukrainian troops had overtaken an area of at least 800 square kilometers, or about 310 square miles, as of Monday. In interviews with BBC published Wednesday, Ukrainian soldiers who had just returned from combat said they were surprised that they “entered easily” into Russia when the signal was given last week.
