Ukraine advances another 1-3 km, captures 2 more settlements in Russia's Kursk Oblast, Zelensky says. Ukraine started its incursion into Russia's Kursk Oblast on Aug. 6.

As of Aug. 20, the Ukrainian military said it controlled 1,263 square kilometers (488 square miles) and 93 settlements, including the town of Sudzha. The numbers do not account for the additional advancements made up to Aug. 25. A road sign showing the distance to the Russian town of upto 5,000, Kursk about 8- k/m next to the Ukraine border and near to destroyed border crossing point with Russia, in Sumy. Zelensky, who received info from Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, did not detail settlements were captured by Ukrainian forces, as fighting is ongoing to capture additional settlement.

A total Russia losses reportedly 13 pieces of weaponry and military equipment

Day's events unfolded in 3 acts involved taking out a Russian T-90 tank, two infantry fighting vehicles. As artillery attack UAVs led the charge at enemy’s who claims quickly turned to dust, two tanks were hit by precise artillery strikes. Shortly supposedly 'invincible' tank received a 105 mm 'greeting' from 46th SAB gunners. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports that Ukrainian troops say they are moving to encircle about 3,000 Russian troops surrounded against a river in Russia's Kursk Oblast as Ukraine destroys bridges and crossings (last estimated is about 2,000, but now is about 3,000). (Source: WSJ)

Details: The Ukrainian military used US-supplied HIMARS missile systems and drones with explosive devices to attack the bridges.

Quote WSJ: "Ukraine’s 6 August incursion has embarrassed Russian President Vladimir Putin by seizing dozens of towns and villages across a territory as large as any Russia has captured in a year of offensives in Ukraine. Kyiv’s forces are now expanding their control along the border and striking Russian supply routes, as Moscow is ramping up counterattacks using massive glide bombs and troops rushed in from Ukraine and other parts of Russia."

Details: Mick Ryan, a military strategist and retired Australian Army Major General, believes that Ukraine is not seeking a deeper advance that would be easier to cut off in Russiaʼs Kursk Oblast but is instead increasing the breadth of its operation in Russia. Quote from Mick Ryan: "They are holding more-defensible terrain that’s closer to Ukraine and easier to support."

Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands & Norway pledged, arrived in Ukraine.“Its excellent to see them in action,” wrote Joni a Finnish analyst. It was apparent early the Ukrainian air force would assign the F-16s to air-defense duty. They’ve been seen flying with pairs of AIM-9 infrared-guided air-to-air missiles and AIM-120 radar-guided air-to-air missiles. They seen with air-to-ground ordnance, they are widely compatible with Ukraine’s best Western-made anti-radar missiles and GPS-guided glide bombs.

It makes sense for F-16s to fly air-defense patrols. Ukraine is under relentless attack armed forces are mobilizing every available weapon to blunt the daily raids. Monday’s early-morning attacks were the worst from Russia’s 29-mth wider war. Hundreds of Russian ballistic cruise missiles & explosive drones—fired by warships & heavy bombers launchers on ground—pummeled Kyiv other cities, destroying wide swathes of electrical grid, driving thousands of civilians into overnight shelters. Four people died.

The Ukrainian air force and army claimed they shot down 102 missiles and 99 drones. Desperate to boost their air defenses, the Ukrainians have begun flying gun-armed helicopters on anti-drone patrols, bolstering an air-defense network that also includes long-range surface-to-air missile batteries, roving patrols of gun-armed trucks—and now the F-16s.

Ukraine has successfully tested ballistic missiles that were made in Ukraine. Ukraine has been dependent on Western countries for long-range ballistic missiles in its fight against Russia's invasion. Will producing these missiles in Ukraine make a difference in the war?.

Ukraine now has successfully tested ballistic missiles made in Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters in Kyiv test was successful, but did not offer specifics. So the question here is whether producing missiles in Ukraine could make a difference in the war.

Theoretical ballistic missiles can have the range for ballistic missile is from 200 kilometers up to 6,000 kilometers. In this case, we heard they're developing three modifications, & most probably, would be something similar to U.S.A. ATACMS.

So. Just 2 days ago, first drone missile is quite a breakthrough for military industry in Ukraine. So understand one of the advantages for Ukraine here is they wouldn't have to abide by restrictions by western countries placed on their use of these weapons, as Ukraine still need missiles provided by other countries, it can now make its own!. Yes.

Yes, surely, b'cos now can produce a few more, 3 or more missiles per mth, not that now producing in hundreds immediately, one nice strike need at least 2 - 3 (these) missiles, if want to survive - knowing not to allow little bit longer for enemy tobe here, need to get those same type or about same missile. To really target, eg, the Russian airfields from where jet's strike at Ukraine, we need a certain number of the those ammunition. Plus, we're just starting producing, that makes it - like, it also will need some time to test out; while U.S. has enough of their ATACMS. We already can use against these military targets.

BBC has been briefed by a number of those involved in these missions. They include one of Ukraine’s largest one-way attack drone manufacturers, as well as a big data company which has helped develop software for Ukraine to carry out these strikes. Francisco Serra-Martins says the strategy is already creating huge dilemmas for Moscow. He believes that with extra investment, it will turn the tide of the war in Ukraine’s favour. Eighteen months ago, the company he co-founded, Terminal Autonomy, didn’t even exist. It is now producing more than a hundred AQ400 Scythe long-range drones a month, with a range of 750km (465 miles). The company also makes hundreds of shorter range AQ100 Bayonet drones a month, which can fly a few hundred kilometres.

Continue for above.....drones are made of wood and are being assembled in former furniture factories in Ukraine. Mr Serra-Martins, a former Australian Army Royal Engineer, set up company with his Ukrainian co-founder, backed by US finance one of at least three companies now producing drones in Ukraine at mass scale. He describes his drones as Rotflbasically flying furniture  we assemble like Ikea” takes about an hour to build fuselage & half that time to put brains inside it – electronics, motor and explosives. Company’s Bayonet drone costs a few thousand dollars. In contrast, Russian air defence missile used to shoot it down can cost more $1m.

Continue for above.....Palantir, a large US data analysis company, was one of the first Western tech companies to aid Ukraine’s war effort. It started by providing software to improve the speed and accuracy of its artillery strikes. Now it has given Ukraine new tools to plan its long-range drone strikes. The British engineers from Palantir, working with Ukrainian counterparts, have designed a programme to generate & map the best ways to reach a target.

Company makes clear it is not involved in missions, but helped train more than 1,000 Ukrainians how to use its software. BBC has been shown how it works in principle. Using streams of data, it can map Russia’s air defences, radar and electronic jammers. The end product looks similar to a topographical chart. The tighter the contours, the heavier the air defences. The locations have already been identified by Ukraine using commercial satellite imagery and signals intelligence.

Louis Mosley of Palantir says the programme is helping Ukraine to skirt around Russia’s electronic warfare and air defence systems to reach their target. “Understanding and visualising what that looks like across the entire battle space is really critical to optimising these missions,” he says. The execution of long-range drone strikes is being co-ordinated by Ukraine’s intelligence agencies, who work in secrecy, the BBC has been told by other sources about some of the detail. Scores of drones can be fired for any one mission – as many as 60 at one target. Rotfl

Volodymyr Zelensky is sayingK About Kursk Invasion Map Reveals Where Russia Has Recaptured Territory. August 30, 2024.

CONTINUE: Russian forces have recaptured some of Moscow's territory following Ukraine's sweeping Kursk incursion, a battlefield map shows, more than 3-weeks after the offensive began. Study of War (ISW), a U.S.-based think tank, shows Ukraine's claimed positions in Kursk—which borders Ukraine's Sumy region—23 days after its forces kickstarted the armored assault.

INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF WAR
This map published Thursday by Institute for
While Kyiv's forces recently marginally advanced north of the town of Sudzha in Kursk, Russian troops have likely recaptured the settlements of Ulanok (southeast of Sudzha) and eastern Korenevo, the ISW said in its latest update.

Newsweek has contacted Russia's Defense Ministry for comment by email. Kyiv launched its lightning offensive on August 6 and was quickly reported to have seized more territory in the Kursk region than Russia has captured in Ukraine since the beginning of the year.

Kyiv's forces seized control of at least 1,250 square kilometers (482 square miles) of Russian territory and 92 settlements, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on August 19 of the Kursk incursion's progress.

On Thursday, Alexei Smirnov, acting head region, announced on his Telegram channel that a new armed volunteer unit called "BARS-Kursk" would be formed to "ensure security" in the region.
"The formation of these new BARS (Russian Army Combat Reserve) volunteer detachments consistent with Kremlin's apparent strategy to avoid re-deploying experienced or combat effective units engaged in fighting in the Pokrovsk or Toretsk directions to Kursk Oblast due to concerns about slowing the tempo of Russian offensive operations in these higher priority directions," the think tank added.

F-16 Jet Crash Ruins Ukraine's Hope Of Air Superiority Against Russia? Aviation Expert On Fallot. Ukrainian aviation expert Anatolii Khrapchynskyi stated that the recent crash of an F-16 in Ukraine will not affect the decision to send more aircraft to Kyiv.

The crash, which occurred on August 28 during a major Russian missile and drone attack, resulted in the death of the pilot & was the first reported loss of an F-16 in Ukraine. Despite this setback, Khrapchynskyi emphasized the need to continue strengthening Ukraine's air defense with additional aircraft.

U.S. experts have joined Ukrainian officials in investigating the cause of the crash, with Khrapchynskyi noting that such losses are to be expected in war and stressing the importance of understanding the incident through a thorough investigation.

Russian officials say Ukraine launched drone attacks early Sunday targeting several regions of the country, including power and refinery plants in the Moscow and Tver regions. The Russian Defense Ministry, quoted by state-run Tass news agency, said 158 drones had been destroyed by the country’s air defense systems. The ministry said on Telegram that the highest number -- 122 -- were downed over the regions of Kursk, Bryansk, Voronezh and Belgorod, which border Ukraine.
It was not possible to independently confirm the Russian reports. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine.

Barrage comes days after Ukraine's energy infrastructure was targeted by over 200 Russian drones & missiles in the biggest such attacks, nearly a month since Ukraine went on offensive in Russia's Kursk region, even as Russian troops are reported to be making advances in eastern Ukraine, especially in Donetsk region. Kyiv urging Washington to lift restrictions on using allied-supplied weapons to strike deep inside Russia. Ukraine argues strikes would greatly impede Moscow’ s ability to continue attacks on Ukraine. Senior officials from Ukrainian President admin admin were in Washington last week, appealing to US for what Zelenskyy called "capabilities to truly and fully" protect the country.

Early Sunday, loud blasts were reported near the Konakovo Power Station in the Tver region, one of the largest regional energy producers, according to the Baza Telegram news channel, which is close to Russia’s security services. 5-drones were destroyed over the Tver region, according to Igor Rudenya, regional governor. He not mention possible damage. A Ukraine-launched drone was destroyed near Moscow Oil Refinery, said Russian capital's mayor.
