1) Aide to Ukraine's president says aims of attack on Russia's Kursk region is to get Moscow to start fair peace talks to end the war. 2) Myhailo Podolyak says Ukraine has no interest in occupying territory taken in its 11-day cross-border incursion. 3) Meanwhile Ukraine has set up a military office inside Russia, which will "meet the immediate needs" of the population in the area. 4)
Elsewhere, Ukraine tells residents to evacuate the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. 5) Russian forces are said to be approaching the outskirts after intense fighting in recent days

Live Report from Kursk attack will force Russia to negotiate, says top Zelensky adviser. British Summer Time To Get Russia to negotiate on Ukraine's terms is one of the objectives behind its incursion into Russia, a senior aide to President Zelensky says. Ukraine is not interested in occupying Russian territories," explains Mykhailo Podolyak in a statement on social media.

"But if we are talking about potential negotiations – I emphasize potential – we will have to put [Russia] at the table opposite. On our own terms."
Ukraine showing that it is capable of occupying Russian territory would be a "proven, effective means of coercion" to force Russia into negotiations, Podolyak says.

"In Kursk region, clearly can see how military tool is being used objectively to persuade [Russia] to enter fair or unfair negotiation," he says. Podolyak says incursion will influence public opinion b'cos "Russians were obviously scared, are shocked by by ability of Ukraine's forces to enter 100x100 km Russian territory. If Russians keep mentioning nuclear weapons all the time. Putin/Russia can perhaps is more & more making this threat lest, less & less effective it becomes?.

From me (tee) I'm thinking is negative for now. There are no chance it can change anythings for now. The psychological state of Russian population now is in real-time of be very shock after trying not to face, real war at their main house or at their main gate, if there is one more or another war front to argument for a start of trying to negotiation, then they can have a one chance to seriously to start negotiations, it mean if there are one more shock to come. those Russians soldiers will not try use serious firepower inside Russia on their own urban areas, (if's on for Putin order, then will his (Putin) will try to kill his folks or not?), Russians trying to eject Ukrainians army, for now is very hard for Russians/Putin's to try even using, even use tactical nuclear weapon on their own territory, or even on Ukraine, me (tee) is saying if Putin can't use even if he want to use it to threaten against Ukraine, in it truth, he can only (Putin) retaliation against Ukraine is more  to be ramping up more of long-range strike campaign on Ukrainian infrastructure, power generators & other civilian targets to inflict to gain political pain on Zelensky, particularly on or when winter is approaches. Ukraine incursion destroys key Russian bridge

Ukraine has destroyed a strategically important bridge over river in Seym, as it continues incursion into Russia's Kursk. Russian officials have been quoted saying operation near town of Glushkovo has cut off part of the local district.

Bridge was used by Kremlin to supply its troops & its destruction could hamper their efforts. President Zelensky said Ukrainian troops were strengthening their positions in Kursk called the captured territories an exchange fund, implying they will swapped for Ukrainian regions occupied by Moscow.

Russian missile sparks blaze in Ukraine as Kyiv’s troops push into Russia’s Kursk region. Ukrainian troops have been deployed in Russia since Aug. 6 in a bid to divert the Kremlin’s military focus away from the front line in Ukraine. City of Sumy that injured two people also damaged cars and nearby buildings, said Ukraine’s Emergency Service. It said that the hit had involved an Iskander-K cruise missile and an aerial bomb.

Ukrainian forces said had seized town of Sudzha, 6 miles from border. With prewar population of roughly 5,000, its biggest town to fall to Ukraine’s troops since incursion began on Aug 6. AP journalists traveled to Friday on a Ukrainian govt-organized trip. Artillery fire had blown chunks out of a statue of Soviet founder Vladimir Lenin in the town’s central sq, the bright yellow facade of a local admin building was scorch w/pockmarked bullet holes. After a week, Ukraine's top commander claimed to control 1,000 sq km of Russian territory, although analysts suggested the true scale was smaller, and the regions of Kursk and Belgorod had both declared a state of emergency. Russia's biggest advantage is manpower, it shown a willingness to throw soldiers at Ukrainian positions to gain a few metres at a time. Around 1,200 Russian soldiers were being killed or wounded every day in May and June, the highest rate since the beginning of the war, according to Western officials.

In recent days, Russian troops have made some significant gains in north-west of Donetsk. In response, Ukraine ordered evacuation of city of Pokrovsk, local official telling residents that Russian forces were "rapidly approaching".

Ukraine sent troops and tanks over the border on August 6 in a surprise incursion two-and-half years after Russia launched its invasion and it says it makes new gains virtually each day....
Zelensky said Ukraine now controls over 1,250 square kilometres (480 square miles).

Ukraine is separated from halting the advance of the Russian army on the front by only one decision we await from our partners: the decision on long-range capabilities. This incursion into Kursk would not have been necessary if Ukraine could use more powerful weapons to protect "citizens in border areas.

Zelensky urges peace talks -

Zelensky confirmed that he had not informed his allies in advance of the Kursk offensive, claiming that they would have opposed it. The whole naive, illusory concept of so-called red lines regarding Russia put out by Putin is to bully NATO.

Zelensky urged diplomats to organise a 2nd round of peace talks this year, "we must force Russia, with all our might and together with our partners, to make peace". Syrskyi considered several scenarios for Russia incursion, reports. Oleksandr Syrskyi awards Ukrainian fighters of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade “Edelweiss” in the Soledar direction on July 2, 2023, in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. Kyiv launched the unprecedented cross-border incursion on Aug. 6, saying it had captured over 1,250 square k/m and dozens of Russian settlements since.

Ukrainian soldiers and people close to Syrskyi interviewed by Economist, the commander-in-chief shared his plans only with a select few military security officials discussed them with President Zelensky in one-on-one meetings to maintain maximum operational secrecy.

Syrskyi was reportedly considering several scenarios for hitting Russia's weak spots. The Economist wrote attack against Bryansk Oblast—lying west of Kursk Oblast is 1st choice.
Also north of Ukraine's Chernihiv & Sumy oblasts, & east of the Belarusian border—was also considered.

  1. ISIT?. Heavenly Punishment: How the 54th Brigade’s Drone Battalion Strikes From the Sky. The Armed Forces of Ukraine has been rapidly transforming since full-scale invasion. Now a whole battalion of drone operators has been created in response to the needs of modern warfare. Be4 the Russo-Ukrainian War, UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), or those drones were toys for civilian hobbyists. Belatedly, they became a niche within the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Today, no unit can do without drones: reconnaissance drones, attack drones, bombers, & FPV fighter systems. The technology & those techniques of drone warfare has progressed astonishingly over the past two years.

Now separate units of drone operators, their coordinators, & commanders are needed – entire battalions, consisting of hundreds of people.

This year President Volodymyr Zelensky mandated the creation of a specialized branch within the AFU to dedicated solely to UAVs.
Kyiv Post goes to the front to see for themself in the Donbas to watch how the newly created battalion of unmanned systems, called “Heavenly Punishment,” put up as part of the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade of Hetman Ivan Mazepa, operates. As We drive on dusty roads to the front line, we are heading to training ground where the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade operators train to destroy enemy targets. One of the operators demonstrates a development with a repeater. Battalion’s drones strike at all targets – personnel, equipment, fortifications, warehouses, and headquarters – day and night. One of the unit’s successful night bombers is Major Payne. He already destroyed more than a hundred invaders, always has fresh battle stories.

A year ago this week, Putin strode on the Kursk region to commemorate 80th anniversary of one of the Soviet army’s proudest moments in World War II. Addressing a soldiers fresh from fighting in Ukraine, Putin called the decisive victory in the Battle of Kursk “one of the great feats of our people.” Now, as Russia prepares to celebrate the 81st anniversary of that 1943 battle on Friday, Kursk is again in the news — but for a very different reason.

On Aug. 6, Ukrainian forces made a lightning push into Kursk, seizing villages, taking hundreds of prisoners and forcing evacuation of tens of thousands of civilians. Russia was caught unprepared by the offensive and reportedly is drafting conscripts to try repel Ukraine’s most battle-hardened units. Putin has a history of responding slowly to various crises in his tenure, and he has so far played down the attack. But 2 1/2 years after launching a war in Ukraine to remove what he called a threat to Russia, it is his own country that seems more turbulent. 24 years in power has portrayed himself as the only person who war began in Feb 2022

Kremlin trying to convince public that Ukrainian troops on Russian soil is 'new normal,' Meduza reports. Kremlin is using state media and propaganda to convince the Russian public that Ukrainian troops on its soil are the "new normal" as it comes to terms with the idea it may not be able to push Kyiv's forces out in the immediate future, Meduza reported on Aug. 21.

Citing sources close to the govt, outlet says three narrative lines have been drawn up being pushed out – an acknowledgment Ukraine did indeed cross border into Kursk Oblast, they"ll inevitably be defeated, but will take time & Russian public needs to be patient. Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said Kyiv had advanced between 28-35 k/m (18-21 miles) into Russia's Kursk unprecedented incursion enters its third week.

According to Syrskyi, Ukraine has captured 1,263 square kilometers (488 square miles) of Russian territory and 93 settlements to date. Two sources close to the Russian presidential administration said that inside the Kremlin, the initial shock at the incursion has now passed, and people have since "got used to it."

The Kremlin expects a "quite optimistic" scenario of several months of fighting to regain the territory, and efforts now are aimed at placating the Russian population and getting them used to this timeline. "During a shock, and this was certainly a shock, there are always jumps (in public alarm).

Shock offensive left Kremlin reeling. Experts say Russia’s military response in Kursk has somewhat mirrored the fumbling reactions of its president Putin himself.

“The initial response when they got over the shock of what was happening would have been who have we got in the cupboard left to defend,” retired Aus Major General Mick Ryan, author of a new book “The War for Ukraine: Strategy and Adaptation Under Fire,” told CNN. “Whether it’s conscripts, whether it’s understrength battalions from Ukrainian theater, or strategic reserves.”
Battlefield accounts have backed up the sense that a motley selection of Russian troops were rushed in. Moscow grappled with dilemma of how to balance defending its own soil. The slow momentum on eastern front. Ukrainian said troops were redeployed from Kharkiv region southern front. Still, more than two weeks in, there are now signs of a more coordinated resistance. Dmytro Kholod, commander of Ukraine’s “Nightingale” battalion, currently in Kursk, told CNN by phone on Wednesday that he has noticed a shift in the behavior of Russian troops. “Now, the forces they have brought to this area are trying to storm us somehow,” he told CNN. “They no longer surrender by the hundreds. Details: The Ukrainian military used US-supplied HIMARS missile systems and drones with explosive devices to attack the bridges.

Kyiv’s forces are now expanding their control along the border and striking Russian supply routes, as Moscow is ramping up counterattacks using massive glide bombs and troops rushed in from Ukraine and other parts of Russia."

Details: Mick Ryan, a military strategist and retired Australian Army Major General, believes that Ukraine is not seeking a deeper advance that would be easier to cut off in Russiaʼs Kursk Oblast but is instead increasing the breadth of its operation in Russia. Quote from Mick Ryan: "They are holding more-defensible terrain that’s closer to Ukraine and easier to support."

It was apparent early the Ukrainian air force would assign the F-16s to air-defense duty. They seen with air-to-ground ordnance, they are widely compatible with Ukraine’s best Western-made anti-radar missiles and GPS-guided glide bombs.

It makes sense for F-16s to fly air-defense patrols. Ukraine is under relentless attack armed forces are mobilizing every available weapon to blunt the daily raids. Monday’s early-morning attacks were the worst from Russia’s 29-mth wider war. Hundreds of Russian ballistic cruise missiles & explosive drones—fired by warships & heavy bombers launchers on ground—pummeled Kyiv other cities, destroying wide swathes of electrical grid, driving thousands of civilians into overnight shelters. Four people died.

The Ukrainian air force and army claimed they shot down 102 missiles and 99 drones. Desperate to boost their air defenses, the Ukrainians have begun flying gun-armed helicopters on anti-drone patrols, bolstering an air-defense network that also includes long-range surface-to-air missile batteries, roving patrols of gun-armed trucks—and now the F-16s.
