With Peru’s fighter aviation faces various challenges due to the aging of its equipment, the well-known difficulties in maintaining these units in service. Same as Mirage 2000s, the MiG-29 Fulcrum fleet is experiencing the inevitable passage of time with Peruvian Air Force’s future fighter program now in its final stages of selection, institution has decided to extend the op life of Fulcrum aircraft despite logistical challenges associated with maintaining.

Since start of war Ukraine in Feb 2022. Sixteen (16) of MiG-29 aircraft were purchased 2nd-hand from Belarus in 1996 for approximately $250 mil, alongside Su-25 Frogfoot attack aircraft as part of a modernization process undertaken after Cenepa conflict in 1995.
