North Korean soldiers fighting against Ukraine have disappeared from battlefield, South Korea’s National Intelligence Service reported. Since mid-January, there no signs showing North Korean troops deployed to Russian Kursk region engaging in battle,” South Korean intelligence has been reporting on their presence since October 2024, when approximately 1,500 North Korean special forces. This group was later joined by another 10,000 or their comrades (some believed to be North Korean special forces units). They were transported nearly 7,000 kilometres across Russia to reach combat zone.

They first spotted fighting in Kursk alongside Russian forces in Dec 2024. By mid-January more than 40% of North Koreans are believed to have been killed, injured, missing or captured – with many, 1,000 thought to have been killed, reports N.Korean troops are now being pulled out from front lines due to alot of losses, potentially the Ukrainian troops has said as many as 4,000 N.Korean soldiers had been wounded or killed – roughly a third of the corps. The NIS put the figure at 3,000.
