This is one of the reasons why most Muslim nations are underdeveloped on many levels. Islam is not holding back the world because it can’t. This is why the Western and Asian nations (non-Islamic nations) are advanced in the sciences, politics, economics, ethics, medicine, literature and so forth (e.g., List of Nobel laureates by country - Wikipedia).

If you were not a Muslim male and you had the choice between living in a Western/Asian nation or in an Islamic nation, where would you rather live?
