Yes, their progress was impeded by Islam, which is why it never advanced beyond that point. The beginning was promising, but it didn't last long.

For like 1,000 years, they were spurred on by Islam to seek knowledge and they paved the way for technology in various fields like medicine, agriculture, or transportation, to name a few. And then, only in the last few centuries, they started lagging.

And you conclude that they were impeded by Islam, even though Islam was spurring them before that.
