According to a few sources, Islam is actually on the decline in places like Iran and Turkey. Despite the government of Iran declaring Shia Islam to be the official state religion, according to the surveys and polls that were not conducted by the Iranian government, only 40% of Iran's population considers themselves to be Muslims and the rest of Iran's population considers themselves to be Atheists/Agnostics, Zoroastrians and Christians.

Islam is also on the decline in Turkey; according to the government, 99.8% of Turkey's population is Muslim however this is most likely not true since according to many studies conducted by religious organizations, only about 89.5% of Turkey's population considers themselves to be Muslims while 10% of the population considers themselves to be Atheists/Agnostics. The remaining 0.5% of Turkey's population adheres to religious minorities such as Christianity.
