Haha... the govt did mention they couldn’t legislate morality. However, many homophobes, religious fundamentalists and puritanical folks have felt otherwise. They are saying we can legislate morality. That’s what our elected lawmakers do all the time. If they could not legislate morality, we wouldn’t have any law against murder, rape, arson, theft and so on. Every bill passed by the legislature is based on someone’s concept of morality.

Admittedly, there’s no simple solution to the gay problem owing to irreconcilable differences, and the political hot potato has long been a lightning rod for controversy and polarization. The govt is repealing a Stone Age anti-gay sex law which is unenforceable in its entirety.
 
It is said that this dead law “could be in breach of the constitution’s equal protection guarantee Article 12.” Should it be struck down in future judicial reviews, it could open a Pandora’s box of more uncertainties on related laws and policies that differentiate on the basis of sexual preferences, leading to even more legalistic wrangling.
 
The lawmaking body is taking a proactive step to decriminalise sex in private between consenting men at a time when society seems to be more accepting of this “alternate lifestyle.”
