Me and friends are similar to your parent. 
Some own freehold, some hdb, but all are financially independent. 
With extra incomes from children and saving interests. 
If you go to hdb kopitiam on weekdays afternoon period. Many elderly sitting in groups chatting. No stress.
We are enjoying our old age in Singapore 😊

I am in my 50s and have contemplated early retirement to join my parents.  However, several of my retired friends have cautioned me about calling time on my career too soon as they often speak about adjustment issues and boredom.
