EU €500m boost ammunition production

Euro Commission program to strengthen capabilities European defense industry through joint procurement (EDIRPA) @4th annual work program under European Defense Fund (EDF). In total, programs provided budget production of ammunition & weapons worth almost €2 bil.

Commission allocated €500 mil foreseen Act in Support of Ammunition Production (ASAP), funding covers investment projects in 5-areas: increasing production of explosives, gunpowder, shells, and missiles, as well as testing, certification, and repair of ammunition.


As part of ASAP, 31 projects selected to stimulate an increase in production of ammunition & missiles in European Union. Not only EU, but also Norway allocates money to implement these projects, total amount €513m. Financing facilitate add to industry investment through co-financing, bringing total investment to about €1.4 bil in the supply chain.


Euro Commission said ASAP was focusing on powder and explosives, which were bottlenecks for ammunition shell production, & would allocate some three quarters of the programme to them. The programme will support projects in increasing the annual production capacity by more than 10k tons of powder by more than 4 300 tons of explosives.

iThis problem is investing €248 million in the development of powder production and another €124 million in production of explosives. It's noted thanks to the implemented measures, the European defense industry in Jan-2024 year to reached the capacity to produce 1 million shells per year.
