S'PORE – With less than day to candidate nominations for general election, question marks still hang over where several bigwigs from both ruling PAP & WP, Spore’s main opposition party, will be fielded. PAP has announced its line-ups for 28 out of 33 constituencies for the May 3 polls, it has kept resolutely mum on plans for keenly watched East Coast GRC, as well as the Punggol and Tanjong Pagar GRCs.

Workers' Party (WP) will be defending Aljunied GRC in polls with party chief Pritam Singh again taking lead. The WP's comprises party chief Pritam Singh, 48; chair Sylvia Lim, 60, a former MPs Gerald Giam, 47; party deputy organising secretary Fadli Fawzi, 36; as well as new face Kenneth Tiong, 36.

Notably, Mr Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap, a former Aljunied GRC MP, will not be contesting in the GRC and will instead be leading at five-member team in Tampines GRC. Mr Fadli was formerly the WP candidate for Marine Parade GRC in 2020 while Mr Tiong is a new face. Vs
PAP team comprises Serangoon branch chair Chan Hui Yuh, 48; unionist Jagathishwaran Rajo, 37; managing director of urban planning consultancy Daniel Liu, 40; company director Adrian Ang, 41; and dental surgeon Faisal Abdul Aziz, 37Only Ms Chan, who is the team leader, stood in the last contest.

Candidates from both parties successfully filed their nomination papers @Poi Ching Sch Tampines on Wednesday (Apr 22).
Speaking from the balcony at the nomination centre, WP's Mr Singh told supporters that they had voted the WP in 2011, 2015 and 2020 into parliament where they did not shy away from the tough questions and worked hard for voters. Big Grin

Lee Kuan Yew wrote of Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Heng Swee Keat in his memoir, “One Man’s View of the World”:

"The only pity he's not of a big bulk, makes a difference in a mass rally. But he has one of finest minds among the civil servants I have worked with."

LKY is Talking again...After 14 years in politics, DPM Heng Swee Keat is retiring  or stepping down from public office, was an industrious police officer, a civil Big Grin servant for is almost our prime minister.

On 23 April, the Nomination Day for the 2025 general election, Teo was not nominated as a candidate for any constituencies. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong later announced Teo's retirement from politics in a Facebook post.

SM Teo Chee Hean will not stand in Pasir Ris-Changi GRC, remains ‘available to contribute’. Former Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean is retiring from standing for re-election in Pasir Ris-Changi GRC, a opens up the possibility of him being deployed to other constituencies. (No he is retiring from S'pore politely). Big Grin

Announcing this on April 21 at a press conference, saying: “I'll continue to support PM Lawrence Wong & his 4G team, & remain available to contribute to the team wherever, whatever way PM Lawrence Wong feels I can best serve.”
PAP team in Pasir Ris-Changi will be led by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Indranee Rajah, who will move out of Tanjong Pagar GRC. She is joining by Senior Ministe >State Desmond Tan, Mr Sharael Taha & newcomer Valerie Lee.
With Nomination Day round the corner, PAP announced slates for 26 of the 33 constituencies islandwide, exceptions include East Coast GRC, Punggol GRC and Tanjong Pagar GRC.

PAP line-up for Sembawang GRC has not been officially announced, but Health Minister Ong Ye Kung on April 21 uploaded a video to his Facebook page of his team, comprising himself, incumbent MPs Vikram Nair and Mariam Jaafar, as well as new faces Gabriel Lam and Ng Shi Xuan.

Political parties like, (expiring) some 20 PAP MPs is retiring in this after this afternoon...in S'pore politicly, all are retired added, said PM Wong. So all hopeful has submitted their prospective candidates for General Election (GE) 2025 on Nomination Day (Apr. 23). 

Based on the submissions, a total of 20 Members of Parliament (MPs) who were elected in GE2020 and served till Parliament was dissolved on Apr. 15, 2025, will not be contesting in the upcoming election.

We: RDU wins praise for ceding Jalan Kayu after WP requests the ward
Voting for PAP's CEC takes place every 2-years. The leadership elected this lead the party into the coming General Election, which must be held by November this year. This is now to be held on after labour day and is on 3rd of May 2025...a Sat, a pubic holiday. Big Grin

At the last polls, WP made a play for Marine Parade GRC, but in 2025, in what was a last-minute Nomination Day surprise, WP did not field a team to contest the newly formed Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC. 
A first walkover general election since 2011, when Tanjong Pagar GRC went uncontested & PAP won in a walkover.

2. Surprise moves by heavyweights. 
Ruling PAP made a surprise move by diverting Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong from Chua Chu Kang GRC, fielding him in Punggol GRC instead. The ruling PAP made a surprise move by diverting Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong from Chua Chu Kang GRC, fielding him in Punggol GRC instead. Mr Gan leads the PAP team that also comprises Dr Janil Puthucheary, Ms Sun Xueling and Ms Yeo Wan Ling. PAP, likely anticipating a tough fight, moved Mr Gan to Punggol GRC to bolster its chances.

Be4 Nomination Day, pundits tipped East Coast GRC to emerge as one of hottest election battlegrounds, predicting WP would field one of its big names in the constituency. The WP team in East Coast is led by former Non-Constituency MP Yee Jenn Jong, 60. The WP will face off against a PAP team led by Culture, Community and Youth Minister Edwin Tong, 55.

Mean...While Manpower Minister Tan See Leng moved from Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC to replace Mr Gan in Chua Chu Kang. The split-second switch-up came at the last minute, after Dr Tan was seen at 9.30am at PAP’s Mountbatten branch, where the Marine Parade-Braddell Heights team met earlier in the morning.

Tampines GRC, Sembawang GRC and Ang Mo Kio GRC, as well as Radin Mas SMC and Potong Pasir SMC, will have multi-cornered fights.bIn Tampines GRC, PAP team will face off against WP, National Solidarity Party (NSP) and People’s Power Party (PPP) in a four-cornered fight.

Social and Family Development Minister Masagos Zulkifli, 62, helms Tampines GRC team also comprises Senior Minister of State for Manpower and Sustainability and Environment Koh Poh Koon, 53, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Transport & Sustainability and the Environment Baey Yam Keng, 54, and two new faces – former chief of army David Neo, 47, and Dr Charlene Chen, 43, an asst professor of marketing at Nanyang Technological University.
