Reports: Russia Hits NATO Member Romania With Kamikaze Drone. Although Kremlin strike planners probably didn’t intend to hit a NATO member, Romania’s military launched F-16s fighters and said it would investigate. The Iran-manufactured Shahed robot plane reportedly struck and blew up in the vicinity of the Danube River shoreside hamlet of Plaura, in southeastern Romania. From
Ukrainian social media video recorded at river port city of Izmail, opposite Plaura, showed an orange flash lighting up the night horizon and a booming blast on the Romanian side of the river.
Flames and smoke reaching hundreds of meters into the sky were visible following the explosion. A Russian kamikaze drone strike against Izmail had been in progress at the time. Anti-aircraft gunners, missile operators and tactical jamming teams in engagements across the country knocked down 17 Shahed kamikaze drones, six reconnaissance drones and two loitering strike drones, the official Kyiv statement said. “Most” of the kills were, per that report, in the airspace above the southwestern Odesa region, where the Danube separates Ukraine and Romania.

Ukrainian Drones Attack 3 Russian Air Bases – Damage Supersonic Bomber. Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) coordinated morning attacks on Russian air bases hundreds of miles away from one another – also an oil refinery. Source Says.
About 100 miles southeast of Moscow, at around 6 a.m. Saturday, July 27 the sounds of at least three explosions rang out at Dyagilevo air base, which serves as a training center for the Russian military’s strategic bomber force. And in the same, Ryazan Oblast, Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) also struck an oil field with kamikaze drones, a source in Ukrainian intelligence told Kyiv Post Saturday afternoon.
A couple of hours later, the Astra Telegram channel published what was reported to be video of a robot plane in Ryazan Oblast and photos of a column of black smoke rising from the Dyagilevo air base. One person posting on social media, and calling their Ryazan-city home “just a stone’s throw” from air base, said: “My window was open, I almost shit myself from the sounds.

According to the plan, Ukrainians will be trained abroad, serve in the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and then return to their home country.I n the Czech Republic, as in Poland, participation in training would be voluntary. The Ministry of Defense is collecting additional information from Poland on the formation of the so-called Ukrainian Legion. When we have it, we will consider our possibilities of involvement,” Defence Ministry spokesman David Polak to iDNES.cz said. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, more than 100,000 Ukrainian men aged 18 to 65 are living in the Czech Republic.
Ukraine is expected to take conservative approach to their deployment. Washington Post said, first few F-16s will likely be used in defensive roles rather than mixing it up with Russian MiGs & Sukhois. it’s still not known what operating restrictions have been imposed by NATO donating the aircraft. At first, F-16s will operate well out of harm’s way, shooting down drones doing other defensive tasks. Ukraine says training process for pilots is an issue b'cos it takes more than 6-mths to get them the language & technical skills they need to operate a Western aircraft using much different systems & control doctrines than old Soviet airframes they normally fly, since only best Ukrainian pilots are selected for F-16 training, their commanders are loathe to lose them b'cos of gaps they leave in the ranks of experienced pilots.
Despite all problems, Ukraine is still welcoming the addition F-16s, particularly their longer-range radars & flexibility, the fear factor they will instill in opposing Russian pilots, makes sense for the Ukrainians to integrate the F-16s slowly.

F-16s spotted over Lviv?
F-16 warplanes were allegedly spotted over the Lviv's central square on July 31 after various reports confirmed that the fighter aircraft were indeed in Ukraine. Late in the evening on Wednesday social media channels began showing images of a what appears to be an F-16 flying through a blue sky above Lviv’s Rynok Square. Kyiv Post has not been able to independently verify any of the F-16 images or video media, and the likelihood of digital manipulation has already been suggested.
Ukraine will not officially confirm the arrival of F-16. In this matter, ‘the fog of war is very useful,’” Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to the head of the Office of the President, is reported to have said on various Telegram channels. Earlier in the day, Bloomberg reported that Ukraine had finally received its first F-16s.

Poland and Ukraine to form a military unit from Ukrainians in Europe. Will it be effective?.
Ukrainian Legion members are expected to be trained and equipped in Poland, with the right to return to Europe after rotation in Ukraine. Kyiv and Warsaw have agreed to form & jointly train a new army brigade on Polish soil, betting the initiative could help recruit some of scores of Ukrainian men living in Poland & other EU countries.
The so-called Ukrainian Legion, a fresh initiative to boost Ukraine’s military manpower more than two years into Russia’s full-scale invasion, will be the first army formation to recruit Ukrainian volunteer fighters from abroad — including those who fled across the border to avoid being drafted to fight in the war and long-time Ukrainian residents of other countries.
Formation of the Ukrainian Legion, whose troops will be sent to fight in Ukraine against Russia’s invading forces following boot camp, is a key element of a bilateral security agreement inked on July 8 between Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
"Ukrainian Legion will train in Poland & equipped with help of our partners. Every Ukrainian citizen who decides to join Legion will be able to sign a contract with Armed Forces of Ukraine," Zelensky said at the time with Tusk at his side.

German developers are demonstrating a new drone in Ukraine called HCX which is immune to radio -frequency jamming and detection because it communicates with its operator via a fiber-optic cable. Small drones have become ubiquitous in this conflict; Ukraine plans to build more than a million this year. But radio-frequency jamming has also stepped up. In a recent speech, French Army Chief of Staff Gen. Pierre Schill claimed that 75% of drones in Ukraine were taken down by electronic warfare breaking the link between drone and operator, suggesting that the reign of the drone could soon be over.
The HCX made by from HIGHCAT, based in Konstanz, Germany, unspools a fiber-optic cable as it flies. This supplies a high-bandwidth data link immune to radio interference. And because there are no radio emissions, neither the operator nor the drone can be located and targeted.
Flying By Fiber -- HIGHCAT co-founder Jan Hartmann explains that the cable only exerts about 8 ounces/ 250 grams of force on the drone, so it does not obstruct flight. It has a flight range of up to 12 miles / 20 kilometers. The drone drops cable behind it like a trail of breadcrumbs, so there is no tangling.
“
The fiber is pretty strong - flying over trees and water is no problem,” says Hartmann. “Flying in circles is also fine, and the drone can even fly backwards.”

Ukraine Had A Chance To Blow Up Russia’s Best Warplanes On The Tarmac. The White House Said —And Now It’s Not Too Late.
It time Ukrainian do the same to Russia.
There was a rare opportunity to deliver a major blow against the KAB infrastructure earlier this summer, when the Russian air force’s 47th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment parked dozens of Su-
34s—out of roughly 100 in service—in open at Voronezh Malshevo air base in southern Russia 100 miles from the border with Ukraine.
Voronezh Malshevo is a reasonably well-defended base,
so Ukrainians pleaded for permission to fire their best American-made Army Tactical Missile System rockets at the base. The ATACMs are almost impossible to intercept.
But administration of U.S. Pres. Joe Biden said no. “Our policy has not changed,” Jake Sullivan, Biden’s national security advisor, told reporters last month. As before, Ukraine would only be allowed to fire ATACMS at targets in Russian-occupied Ukraine. The Russians observed the heated diplomacy regarding ATACMS—and made a rare proactive decision to pull the Su-34s from Voronezh Malshevo and other border airfields.
“Between the second half of June and mid-July, Russian forces relocated a lion’s [share] of valuable military assets away from the border area with Ukraine,” Frontelligence Insight noted. The departure of Su-34s from Voronezh Malshevo was among “the most notable movements.”Today many of the Su-34s are at bases hundreds of miles from the border.
They’re invulnerable to Ukrainian drones—but Ukraine farthest-flying models range more 1,000 miles.
