Israel repeatedly said its op near centres in order to prevent aid falling into hands of Palestinian Hamas militants. A UN official said on Sunday majority of people killed were trying to reach aid distribution sites of US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. The GHF began distributing food packages in Gaza at end of May, overseeing a new model of deliveries the UN says is neither impartial nor neutral. Many Gazans say they walk for hours to reach sites, meaning they must start travelling well be4 dawn if they are to stand any chance of receiving food.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Friday US-backed aid op in Gaza is “inherently unsafe,” adding: “It is killing people.” Since Israel & U.S. want UN to work through GHF, but UN refused, questioning its neutrality & accusing the distribution model of militarising aid and forcing displacement. "Any op channels desperate civilians into militarised zones is inherently unsafe. It is killing people," Guterres told reporters. Responding to Guterres on Friday, Israel’s Foreign Ministry said military never targets civilians, accused UN of “doing everything it can” to oppose GHF aid operation. “In doing so, UN is aligning itself with Hamas, which is also trying to sabotage GHF’s humanitarian op,” it posted on X. A GHF spokesperson said on Friday there had been no deaths at or near any of the GHF aid distribution sites. Israel and the United States have accused Hamas of stealing aid from the UN-led operations, which the Palestinian militants deny.

Former Mossad official details: How Israel eliminated Iran's military elite
A former top Mossad official has told the BBC how technology & innovation played a key role for Israel in its 12-day war with Iran. In an interview with BBC Persian's special correspondent Kasra Naji, the former deputy chief of the Israeli intelligence agency, Rami Igra, said that innovation, technology, and "very sophisticated guiding systems" played an important role in the killings of top commanders of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
In its initial attack on 13 June, Israel killed top Iranian military figures including the Armed Forces Chief of Staff, the IRGC Chief of Staff and the head of IRGC missile and aerospace divisions, as well as a number of nuclear scientists. Iran attributes this to Mossad operatives working inside the country.
Igra said he was not impressed by the killings: "It doesn't change fact behind, there's a whole army and people are expendable at the end of the day".
* Watch: The US has joined the Iran-Israel war. What happens now?
President Donald Trump says US has carried out a "successful" bombing attack on three nuclear sites in Iran and said they have been "obliterated".
Israel says they were in "full co-ordination" with the US in planning the strikes. Iranian officials have confirmed the facilities were struck but denied it had suffered a major blow. The strikes mark a significant escalation in the ongoing war between Iran and Israel. So what happens now? Here are the key questions, answered by our world news correspondent Joe Inwood.

A US appeals court on Friday scrapped 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s plea agreement would have taken the death penalty off the table and helped conclude the long-running legal saga surrounding his case. The agreement had sparked anger among some relatives of victims of the 2001 attacks, and last year, then-US defense secretary Lloyd Austin moved to cancel it, saying that both they and the American public deserved to see the defendants stand trial. Austin “acted within the bounds of his legal authority, and we decline to second-guess his judgment,” judges Patricia Millett and Neomi Rao wrote.
Plea deals with Mohammed as well as two alleged accomplices — Walid bin Attash and Mustafa al-Hawsawi — were announced in late July last year. The decision appeared to have moved their cases toward resolution after years of being bogged down in pre-trial maneuverings while the defendants were held at the Guantanamo Bay military base in Cuba. But Austin withdrew the agreements two days after they were announced, saying the decision should be up to him, given its significance. He subsequently said that “the families of the victims, our service members and the American public deserve the opportunity to see military commission trials carried out in this case.” A military judge ruled in November that the deals were valid and binding, but the government appealed that decision.
